Graph Explorer¶
This example story is part of the SHMARQL documentation. It demonstrates the Graph Explorer Special Node. To open it as an editable project, download graph-explorer.lodeon.zip and import it in the story editor (/lodeon/ → Import).
The Graph Explorer starts from one or more resources (IRIs typed in, or the results of a SPARQL query) and draws their neighbourhood as a network. Click a node to expand it. SHMARQL fetches the neighbours through its explorer API, using the profile of the node.
Graph exploration ready.
The settings of this profile (graph_explorer: in the profile YAML) keep the graph small: outgoing links only, at most 25 per node and 60 in total, without literals. Wikidata items have hundreds of statements, so a larger graph quickly becomes unreadable.
**Known limitation: **on Wikidata an expansion currently adds only one or two neighbours per click. The explorer's query also fetches the labels of the neighbours, in every language, and on Wikidata those label rows use up the row limit of the query. Endpoints with labels in one or a few languages are not affected.
Try it in the editor:
- Add
http://www.wikidata.org/entity/Q5598(Rembrandt) as a second start IRI. - Change the direction to incoming to see what links to Vermeer.
- Toggle predicate labels and use the fullscreen button.
